BOONE, N.C.- Appalachian State
University women's tennis notched an impressive win Friday afternoon, as the
Mountaineers defeated North Carolina A&T 7-0. With the win, ASU improves to
2-1 on the season.
The Black and Gold posted a strong
start to the match as the Apps swept through doubles competition.
At the number one doubles spot,
the duo of Ellie Linsell and Jessica Thaggard cruised past their opponents
winning 8-0, while Blakeley Bean and Gisela Fernandez were also victorious at
the number two doubles position also winning 8-0. Rounding out doubles play, Amanda
Cash and Jennifer Ansari also won by a score of 8-0.
ASU was also able to earn wins inits
singles matches against NC A&T.
Linsell picked up a win at the
number one singles spot, defeating her competition in two sets, 6-1, 6-1, while
Ansari easily won at the number two spot 6-0, 6-2.
Thaggard and Bean both earned wins
at the three and four spots, while Fernandez and Dinh helped ASU to stay
spotless in singles play, winning at the five and six positions.
The Mountaineers return to action
tomorrow against East Carolina at 10 a.m.
