CLINTON, S.C. - Appalachian State University women's tennis trumped a
youthful Presbyterian squad 5-2 in its match Saturday afternoon.
The Mountaineers (5-2) jumped on the Blue Hose (6-3) early
as it swept them in doubles play. Ellie Linsell and Jessica Thaggard defeated
Christina Limantoro and Paige Oelke 8-5 at the No. 1 pairing. The duo of
Blakeley Bean and Gisela Fernandez walked through their opponents at the number
two spot 8-0 while Jennifer Ansari and Kim-Lea Dinh also won by the same score.
In singles action, Linsell improved to 6-1 on the season as
she thumped Limantoro 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 1 singles.
Linsell's doubles partner, Thaggard, won her third match of
the season at the No. 3 position as she easily beat Cara Caruso 6-0, 6-2.
Bean had a battle at the three spot, but pulled out a
victory over Courtney Gardiner. Dinh rounded out the Black and Gold's winning
at the number six spot when she won her third straight match.
The Apps' two losses came from Ansari at the No. 2 spot and
Fernandez at the No. 5 slot.
Appalachian returns to action next Saturday when it travels
to Charlotte to face UNC Charlotte at 11 a.m.
