Team
- With the loss, Appalachian
closes its season at 8-4, snapping its string of six-consecutive 10-win
seasons.
- Maine (9-3) advances to
the NCAA Division I Football Championship quarterfinals, where it will face No.
3-seed Georgia Southern. The game will be played on either Friday, Dec. 9 or
Saturday, Dec. 10 in Statesboro, Ga. Date and time will be announced on Sunday.
- ASU lost in a postseason
opener for the first time since 2002, when it dropped a 14-13 decision to Maine
in the first round of what was then known as the NCAA Division I-AA playoffs.
ASU has not lost a postseason opener to a team besides Maine since 1999 (44-29
vs. Florida A&M).
- ASU lost for only the
fourth time in its last 20 postseason games.
- ASU lost for only the
fifth time in its last 66 home games overall but the third time in is last five
postseason games at home.
- ASU's 3 rushing yards were
its fewest since rushing for minus-one yard in a 40-35 loss at Northwestern
State on Sept. 25, 2004 and its fewest ever in an NCAA Division I FCS/I-AA
playoff game (prev. 28 in 2000 semifinals at Montana).
- Attendance of 15,291 was
the second-largest for a postseason opener in ASU history (prev. 16,223 vs.
Coastal Carolina, 2006).
Individual
- In his final collegiate
game, ASU WR Brian Quick became
ASU's all-time leader with 202 career receptions, breaking the previous record
of 200 (DaVon Fowlkes, 2001-04). Quick also finishes his career as ASU's
all-time leader in career receiving yards (3,418) and touchdown receptions (31).
