Postgame Quotes - ASU vs. Western Carolina

Appalachian State

Coach Jerry Moore

On the game
"Their kids played hard, and I thought we played hard. I was a little disappointed that we ran into some of the same problems we had last week by not being able to get the ball in the end-zone, and we were able to kick a bunch of field goals. That's not all bad, we have got a guy that can do that, and that's the positive out of that."

On Brian Quick's receiving record
"I was happy for [Brian] Quick. We don't talk much about individual accomplishments here, but Brian has been a hard worker and has been a very committed athlete. It has been fun to watch him progress throughout his whole career. I told his mom while we were on the field for senior day that he has come a long way since he was a freshman, and it has been fun to watch his progress and happy to see him break the record."

Kicker Drew Stewart

On kicking a team-record six field goals in one game
"I try and treat every kick the same, extra point or an 80 yard field goal. It's all the same to me. It's all about hitting my spots and clicking with the snapper and holder."

Quarterback Jamal Jackson

On playoffs and not being able to win the SoCon title
"It's over with, it's done with [SoCon title]. Now our goals are set on a national championship and taking it one game at a time. We will enjoy this tomorrow, and then Monday it's time to get focused for Elon. We can't take anybody lightly; we didn't take western lightly. We've got to come out and play our ball and win these games."

Wide Receiver Brian Quick

On the catch that broke the Appalachian receiving record
"It was a screen. After they called that, I knew at that time that I would break it. At the same time, I wasn't thinking about breaking it, and that is probably why it happened the way it did. I knew that I was going to break it because we had been practicing it all week, and I had been getting at least 15 yards in practice."

Western Carolina

Coach Dennis Wagner

On the game as a whole
"Very disappointing. Offense put our defense in bad field position twice toward the end of the half to give them a touchdown and another field goal. We just ran out of gas defensively. Offensively we just never got a rhythm going. They did a nice job against us. [They] did some things they hadn't shown on film."

On ASU touchdowns before the half
"They have a lot of weapons out there to try to stop and we did for a while but we ran out of gas."

On injuries' effect on the game
"Not sure it made a big difference. Obviously at quarterbacks it does. But you know they're a good football team. They stuck with it, had a good game plan. I don't think they did a whole lot different at halftime, came out ran the same things. But like I said, the defense was just on the field too long."

On Appalachian as a contender
"This is the way you do it. When you walk into the stadium and look at the facilities and look at the things they have and the things they do: they're doing it right. For the people that support their program, hats off to them. Coach Moore and his staff and players did a great job tonight."

On a prolonged handshake with Coach Moore after the game
"We just talked a little bit. He had a lot of knowledge about the job before I even took it here at western. We just shared a couple of thoughts and talked about things. Told me he was in a similar situation when he was at Nebraska and his wife lost her father, and we went through that this week ourselves. He told us to keep fighting and keep working and things would come through. He's a great man."

Defensive Lineman Trey Selby

On the game
"Definitely didn't go the way we wanted it to go. We made several mistakes. App State is a good team, and they capitalized on those mistakes. Especially at the end of the first half... It really hurt us."

On holding App to three-straight field goals
"It felt pretty good. Obviously you don't want them scoring any points at all, but to have a couple of big plays on us and hold them to just a field goal got us going a little."

On second game with a new coordinator
"It's going pretty well. A lot of people might think we're in a bad situation. But coach Hood is a good coach. We trust him completely and he trusts us. We still play hard no matter who's going to be our D coordinator."

On playing through the losses
"It's really hard. But we're not going to give up ever. Not in a game, not at practice. We're just going to keep playing. And eventually it's going to turn around."
