POSTGAME NOTES

 

Team

• No. 10/8 Appalachian moved to 7-3 overall and 5-2 in Southern Conference play.

 

• Western Carolina (1-9, 0-8 SoCon) finishes winless in SoCon play for the third time in six seasons (2006 and 2007).

 

• ASU moved to 57-18-1 in 76 all-time meetings with WCU and 29-7 in 36 meetings since the inception of the Old Mountain Jug, the rivalry's traveling trophy.

 

• The victory was ASU's seventh-straight in the series overall and 14th-straight over WCU in Boone. WCU's last victory in Boone was a 34-7 win at then-Conrad Stadium on Oct. 6, 1984.

 

• ASU won its 17th-straight regular-season home game.

 

• ASU won its 18th-straight conference home game.

 

• ASU moved to 21-1 in its last 22 games that immediately followed a same-season loss. Since the third week of the 2003 season, ASU has only lost consecutive games in the same season once (2009 vs. East Carolina and McNeese State).

 

• ASU won its 31st-straight home game over an in-state opponent. WCU's 34-7 win at then-Conrad Stadium in 1984 was ASU's last home loss to an in-state foe.

 

• Attendance of 30,622 is the highest of the season and fourth-highest in stadium history.

 

• Attendance was over-capacity at Kidd Brewer Stadium (cap. 23,150) for the 40th-straight regular-season game, dating to the beginning of the 2005 season.

 

Individual

• ASU senior wide receiver Brian Quick became ASU's all-time leader in career receiving yardage with a 33-yard reception from DeAndre Presley early in the second quarter. Quick broke the 31-year-old school record of 3,124 yards, set by current ASU senior associate athletics director Rick Beasley from 1978-80. Quick finished the game with 3,227 career receiving yards.

 

• Quick finished the day with seven receptions for 111 yards and a touchdown. It was his sixth 100-yard receiving game of the season and 12th of his career.

 

• ASU sophomore place kicker Drew Stewart set school records with 6 field goals (44, 32, 29, 21, 27, 24 yards) and 21 kicking points in a game. The previous record of four field goals was accomplished four times, last by Jay Millson vs. Furman in 1991. The previous record of 15 kicking points was accomplished twice, last by Bjorn Nittmo vs. Gardner-Webb in 1988.

 

• Sophomore quarterback Jamal Jackson finished with 261 yards on 22-of-34 passing to extend his own school record for consecutive starts with at least 200 passing yards to start a career to five. Prior to Jackson, no other ASU QB had thrown for at least 200 yards in more than two-straight starts to open his career.
