Appalachian State
Defensive End Ronald
Blair
On preparing for
Georgia Southern's Offense
"I feel that the coaches prepared us great, they were
telling us that they have great backs, and it felt like we had the hunger to
stop them, and we were working hard all week to prepare for them."
On the second half
stops inside the 10 yard-line
"We knew we had to top them, if they came in they would have
built their momentum, and we knew if we didn't keep them out of the end zone it
was going to be tough to win in the end, so we had to stop them."
On the defense growing
up this year
"I feel like we haven't reached our full potential yet, we
are still learning each other, and we still haven't meshed together
completely. I feel like we have a
long way to go."
Wide Receiver Brian
Quick
On his second touchdown
catch
"I know my feet were in, in college you only need one foot
in, I know I defiantly kept that foot down, and concentrated on catching the
ball. In the end I had possession
of the ball, and when I fell I cuffed it up and made sure I protected it as I
was falling to the ground."
On the reversal of roles
between ASU and Georgia Southern
"At the end of the day we still had to come play, no matter
if they are number one. We saw
them as another team we had to beat, because we are trying to get that ring and
they were in our way."
On the play of Jamal
Jackson
"We have faith in him because he is our quarterback. He is young but he is still our leader,
and all the eyes are on him and he handles the pressure really well. He stays humble, and he's making good
throws and making good reads."
Defensive back Dominique
McDuffie
On DeAndre Presley
switching to defense
"Its fun because DeAndre is a heck of a player, everyday he
goes out and plays hard. As a
defensive player he looks pretty comfortable out there, he's getting things and
moving well. He's making good tackles for us, he brings a lot of energy on the
defense because he goes hard on every play."
Head Coach Jerry Moore
On the game as a whole
"The first thing I would say is that I am proud of our
football team, of the players and what they accomplished today, and of the
Appalachian family. We raised the
bar, we are playing with so many young players. We started a freshman center, a freshman left guard, a kid
that played a little bit last year at left tackle, and I am proud of them. And our defense just time and time
again rose to the occasion. They
are growing up, and this was a great win for our program."
On the defense's
improvement in stopping the triple-option
"I think the intensity level was where it needed to be. That was the main thing here, and we
tackled well. Ball clubs like that
are going to put some yards on you.
We had a good plan for them and we executed well."
Georgia Southern
Head Coach Jeff Monken
On ASU's defense
"This was due to a lack of trying or effort; just really
disappointed with the way we seemed to get man handled a little bit in the
first half by their defense. Weren't getting much movement. We just weren't
making plays."
On his team's defense
in the early-going
"Defensively, the opening drive they go down and score, hate
to give up points on the opening drive. It's a great confidence booster for the
other team, but we knuckled down after that. "
On Brian Quick's first
touchdown catch
"Just before half, we have their best player double covered,
we're in cover two, and we don't get over the top and he runs right by us. I don't
know how that happens."
On Georgia Southern's
late really
"We were able to come out and tie it up. Great run by
Darreion Robinson, great individual effort to tie it up at 17- 17.
Unfortunately, that last td down there, we blew an assignment, let their best
player run wide open all by himself in the back of the end zone. Just couldn't
make a play down there. Had a chance at the end, just couldn't make a play.
Credit to Appalachian State they've got a great football team. Well coached."
On the lasting effects
of the loss
"Well there was a goal to beat App. Unfortunately we didn't
get that done. But we're still in the hunt for a Socon champ fortunately.
Everybody in the league has at least one loss. But the only way we're going to
stay in the hunt is by winning next week."
