Men's Golf Places Fourth at Donald Ross

MORGANTON, N.C. - Appalachian State University men's golf played three consistent rounds at its own Donald Ross Intercollegiate to tie for fourth place at 292-286-293=871 (+13). Four Mountaineer golfers finished in the top 12 of the 64-player field at par-70 Mimosa Hills Golf and Country Club.

Leading the official Mountaineer team, sophomore Casey Komline finished the event strong with a 71-73-68=212 (+2) to place seventh, followed closely by Dustin Hudson in a tie for ninth at 76-68-70=214 (+4).

Jason Woodall carded a 75-72-80=227 (+17) to place 40th. John Michael Cole and Darren Cook each finished just one stroke back in a tie for 42nd. Cole carded a 72-73-83 and Cook shot a 74-79-75.

Head coach Bill Dicus also entered a second, unofficial squad of five individuals in the event with equal success.

Josh Nichols led the group with a sixth-place finish at 72-67-70=209 (-1). Lance Wheeler was next in the group with a 71-72-72=215 (+5) to tie for 12th.

Daniel Walsh placed 21st at 72-78-69=219 (+9), while newcomer Eric Eberspeaker placed 28th at 75-73-74=222 (+22).

Drew Harris rounded out the team with a 72-79-75=226 (+16) for 36th place.

Lynn University took home the team title at 853 (+13), five strokes ahead of second-place Gardner-Webb.

GWU's Kristopher Gray tied Presbyterian's Matt Sizemore for the individual title at 203 (-7).

The Mountaineers tied Western Carolina for fourth, while fellow Southern Conference member Elon placed ninth at 894 (+54).

Appalachian's fall slate continues on Oct. 31 at WCU's Hummingbird Intercollegiate at Cashiers, N.C.'s Country Club of Sapphire Valley.
