DAVIDSON, N.C. - Appalachian State men's tennis kicked off
its fall season by competing at the 3rd Annual Jeff Frank Invitational hosted
by Davidson College, Sept. 30-Oct. 1. Two Mountaineers came away undefeated and
won their flights in the round robin format.
In Flight #4 singles, sophomore Sebastien King secured the
pool victory with a 6-1, 7-6 win over Davidson's Ethan Kallick. Freshman Robert Jenkins pulled out three victories in Flight #8, including a 7-6, 3-6, 15-13
nail-biter over Davidson's Ted Bolton.
In the top singles flight, senior Alex Markov's only win
came over eventual pool-winner Fernando Guillen of Campbell. Seniors Phillip
Kloc and Alain Humblet notched 2-1 records in #2 and #3 singles, respectively.
Kloc and Humblet went 2-1 in the top doubles flight,
clinching wins over pairs from Campbell and Charlotte. Markov and King pulled
out a 9-8 over Campbell in #2 doubles but came up short, 7-9, against Davidson.
As a team, Appalachian went 6-2 in singles matches and 4-0
in doubles against Campbell. Against Charlotte, ASU finished 4-3 in singles
with a 3-0 mark in doubles. Despite splitting their singles matches with
Davidson, 4-4, the Apps fell 0-4 in pairs play.
