Postgame Quotes
JACKSONVILLE
Jacksonville Head Coach- Kerwin Bell
“We prepared very well this week and our kids were ready to play. We were in that thing in the 3rd quarter fighting toe to toe with a very good football team in Appalachian State and we wore down a little bit. And as we put some back ups in to try to stay fresh we also missed some throws that probably could have been touchdowns, that might have got us in there especially right there before halftime. Other than that I tell you I am proud the way our guys prepared, we were ready for them and we played extremely hard but we just sort of wore down there as the game got going. Also, they got on a roll and they were pretty impressive on offense and we couldn't get them off the field and that really wore us down late in the game.”
“The first and second down we played pretty well against them, we played the run pretty well, and played great on the first and second downs almost the whole game especially early until late in the third quarter. Presley was pretty impressive, and they just continued to get third downs in crucial situations that kept them on the field and limited our opportunities and also wore our young defense down. They played extremely hard, but we just couldn't get them off the field on the third down, that was really the down we just didn't have anything for them.”
“Presley is very impressive, he has great feet and he makes plays with his legs and yet we would have him covered and he would find ways with his legs to get first downs. He throws the ball extremely accurate so he made some big time throws on third down and they were just too good for us there on third down and that kept them on the field.”
“Two years ago we weren't in it from the start, at the line of scrimmage we were outmatched and outmatched across the board. Today in 2 and half quarters we sort of fought toe to toe with them and we were right there at 17-14, battling and playing extremely well. It was just those third downs by their offense that continued to stay on the field and when they just continued to keep those drives going it really wore us down and then they got on a roll and really separated from us. But I really am pleased with our kids, I love the way that they prepared and fought and you can see that we closed the gap some. Coach Moore made that comment to me after the game saying we are getting really good fast, and that's good to hear from a guy like him, he has a lot of experience and to hear him say good things about our football team and the way we have improved, the way he are coming on as a program really says a lot about our kids.”
“This is a little setback, but we don't take a lot from it, the way we prepared especially the way we got ourselves ready to play, we need to do that now for the next 9 weeks in a row here and take that same approach and it starts this week against Weber.”
APPALACHIAN STATE
Safety- Mark LeGree
“It was great to finally get one (interception). Last game and this game I had a couple of drops, and just personally I know I have good hands so for me to keep dropping them it affected my confidence, but it was good to finally get one.”
Defensive Back - Patrick Blalock- on the blocked punt
“ All week in practice we thought they were going rug it, and they didn't and he straight up punted it and nobody came out on me so I just got to the ball.”
Quarterback- DeAndre Presley
“Jacksonville did not do what we saw on film, they changed it up and played a lot of man coverage especially on (Brian) Quick. My main thing was trying to get Quick the ball.”
“I believe we were a lot stronger in the second half because of summer conditioning. We ran a lot of sprints and our goal was to stay in shape not be broken. You can see we really turned it up in the fourth quarter and never got tired and that is due to our work in the summer.”
“I am really happy for Jamal (Jackson) he did outstanding job and he is going to continue to get better.”
“We can score whenever we want, we know we have it in us. If we don't stop ourselves no one can stop us. We just have to take it one play at a time. We know we have the ability to score”
Head Coach Jerry Moore
“Number one we have a lot of respect for Jacksonville, we played them two years ago and they had a lot of young players. Kerwin has really gotten their program going. They went up to Old Dominion and beat a good football team last week. They had three really good running backs and three to four good defensive guys. If you let them hang around with you, you get yourself into a mess and we did for a few quarters.”
“You can't let them hang around or you will get beat by them.”
“I was proud how we played in the second half of the ball game particularly our offensive guys. They went out there and we ran the ball well and its obvious that DeAndre (Presley) is developing into a really neat and good quarterback and is a threat to run and doing very well throwing the ball.”
“Our offensive line … I looked at our stats, 600 yards, (5 lineman) they are that group that never gets enough stats. Those are the same guys that blocked for Armanti (Edwards)) who won the Walter Payton Award. I am really proud of our offensive line.”
“I probably have somewhere from 24-48 hours to probably manufacture a scholarship for him (Blalock) … what he did today on the field, that is the way he practices. Both Blalock and Quick practice like they are obsessed with being good, and well they are going to be good.”
