CHATTANOOGA, TENN.- Appalachian State University men's tennis snapped a three-match losing streak, as the Mountaineers defeated Southern Conference rival Chattanooga 5-2. With the win, ASU improves to 8-7 overall and 1-4 in the conference, while UTC falls to 3-13 on the season and 1-7 in the conference.
The Mountaineers were yet again dominant in doubles action, earning wins in two of three matches.
Trent Constance and
Peter Jacobs easily defeated Ryan Pool and Roberto Vieira 8-3 at the one spot, while
Alain Humblet and
Philip Kloc secured the doubles point handing their competitors and 8-3 loss at the two slot.
The freshman duo of
Andrew McKinnon and
Ezekiel Sansing came up just short, dropping an 8-6 decision at the three position.
Chattanooga evened the match at one all, as William Disterdick beat McKinnon at the five position grabbing a 6-3, 6-4 win. Kloc put Appalachian back on top, beating Jackson Tresnan 6-3, 6-2 at the four spot.
Playing at the number two position for the first time all season, Humblet was victorious over Pool, cruising to a 6-2, 6-4 win.
Constance secured the win for ASU, eeking out a hotly contested three-set win over Chris Smith, winning 6-3, 1-6, 6-4.
Sansing was victorious as well on the afternoon, beating Stephen Crofford in three sets as well.
In the final singles contest, Jacobs fell in three tough sets to Vieira.
Appalachian looks to continue with its strong play, as the Apps head to Greensboro, N.C. ASU will battle UNCG, Tuesday April 6 at 2 p.m.
