Women's Tennis Suffers 6-1 Loss to UNCG
GREENSBORO, N.C.- Appalachian State University women's tennis posted a solid effort, but fell 6-1 to Southern Conference foe UNCG Saturday afternoon. With the loss, ASU drops to 7-10 on the season and 1-6 in the SoCon, while the Spartans improve to an even 8-8 and 3-4 in league play.

The match got off to a tough start for the Mountaineers, who were unable to pick up a match win in doubles action.

At the number one spot, the team of Olivia Stannard and Ellie Linsell fell 8-2 to Valerie Behr and Stephanie Macfarlane, while Blakeley Bean and Laura Janke were unsuccessful as well at the two spot.

Jennifer Ansari and Gisela Fernandez gave a strong performance at the three position, but lost to Alex Whitehead and Mikayla Rogers 8-4.

In singles play, Linsell lost in two sets to Whitehead felling 6-3, 6-0 while Ansari earned the Black and Gold's lone victory of the day, beating Macfarlane in three tough sets.

Stannard dropped a two set decision at the No. 3 slot, while Caroline Mauch came up just short falling 6-3, 6-4 at the four position. Bean and Janke also suffered losses at the five and six spots.

The Mountaineers continue with the 2010 season as they return to the High Country to host UNC Asheville, Tuesday April 6 at 3 p.m. at the ASU Tennis Courts.
