Johnson Leads Men's Golf at Coca-Cola Wofford Invitational

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Appalachian State University men's golf improved two strokes from Monday's late round to finish with a 296-303-301=900 (+34), good for 13th place at the Coca-Cola Wofford Invitational on Monday and Tuesday.

East Tennessee State's Michael Stewart held onto his first-day lead to claim the individual title at 72-66-71=209 (-7) and lead the Bucs to the team title at 285-277-285=847 (-17).

Senior Casey Johnson paced the Mountaineers with a 71-74-74=219 (+3), tying him for 21st place. Lance Wheeler finished second for ASU at 76-74-73=223 (+7), 39th overall.

Dustin Hudson placed 62nd with a 77-78-75=230 (+14) three-round score while Jake Wiesehan was right behind at 72-79-81=232 (+16) in 64th place.

Jacob Eggers carded a 78-77-79=234 (+18) to finishin a tie for 69th place. Competing individually, Josh Nichols also tied for 64th at 80-75-77=232 (+16).

Host Wofford finished in third place at 863 (-1), while Elon placed fifth at 872 (+8) and Samford was ninth at 887 (+23).

The Mountaineers head to the Southern Conference Tournament next weekend (April 18-20) at Florence's Country Club of South Carolina.
