Men's Track Sends Five to NCAA Qualifying Meet
BOONE, N.C. – Five members of Appalachian State men's SoCon champion track and field program will be looking to earn a spot in the NCAA Indoor Championships this weekend. With the championships slated for March 12-14, this weekend serves as a last chance for athletes who have not qualified for the NCAA's to earn a spot in the field.

Matt Boruff, Brandon Hudgins, Darius Purcell, and Malcolm Styers will be in action at the NCAA Qualifying Meet at Virginia Tech Saturday, hoping to nail down a spot in the championships, while Patrick Morgan will be on the track at Notre Dame looking to guarantee his place in the NCAA Championships.

Boruff, who finished third in the pole vault at last weekend's SoCon Championships to earn all-conference honors, will need to clear a height of 17-00.75 in order to provisionally qualify for the NCAA's. An effort of 17-00.75 would guarantee Boruff a spot in the championships.

Styers claimed both the shot put and weight throw titles for the second consecutive year at last weekend's SoCon Championships, and will look to put a cap on his junior season by earning a spot in the NCAA Championships in the weight throw. The Hickory native will need an effort of 63-11.75 to provisionally qualify, while a 70-06 toss will automatically place him in the championships. Styers posted a season-best toss of 60-10 at Clemson last weekend.

Purcell, who finished second in the high jump for the second year in a row at last weekend's SoCon Championships, will need to clear a height of 7-00.25 in order to provisionally qualify or an effort of 7-04.25 to automatically earn a spot. The Fayetteville sophomore nearly earned a provisional spot at the Liberty Open in January, posting a career-best mark of 6-10.75.

Senior Patrick Morgan will be in action at Notre Dame this weekend, in hopes of solidifying his place in the NCAA Championships in the mile run. Morgan, who posted a provisional qualifying time of 4:01.75 at last month's Akron Invitational, will need to shave just under a second off that time in order to meet the NCAA's automatic standard of 4:00.80. Morgan was also one of four Mountaineers to claim an individual conference title at last weekend's SoCon Championships, taking home first place in the mile.
