Women's Tennis Falls to Furman 7-0
GREENVILLE, S.C.- Southern Conference power Furman proved to be too much for Appalachian State University women's tennis Wednesday afternoon, as the Apps suffered a 7-0 defeat to the Paladins. With the loss the Mountaineers fall to 7-9 on the season and 1-5 in SoCon action, while Furman improves to 11-6 overall and 4-1 in conference play.

The match got off to a rocky start as the duo of Blakeley Bean and Laura Janke lost to Jessica Preeg and Jennifer Betts, falling 8-0 at the number two slot. Furman was able to secure the doubles point, as Ellie Linsell and Olivia Stannard posted a solid effort but dropped an 8-4 decision at the number one position.

In the finals doubles match, the team of Jennifer Ansari and Gisela Fernandez lost 8-2 to Olivia Maurice and Michele Stanford.

In singles play, Stannard was defeated by Preeg at the three spot, falling 6-1, 6-1, while Linsell was unsuccessful on the afternoon as well, losing to Monica Arguello 6-0, 6-2.

Fernandez, Caroline Mauch and Bean all lost in two sets to their opponents at the six, five and four positions, while Ansari had the best performance of the afternoon, pushing her opponent to three sets, but came up just short.

Appalachian returns to the High Country, as the Apps host UNCG, Saturday April 3 at Noon at the ASU tennis courts behind the Athletics Complex.
