BOONE, N.C.- Appalachian State University men's tennis could not hang with a solid Georgia Southern squad Sunday afternoon, as the Mountaineers fell 4-3 to their Southern Conference foe. With the loss, the Black and Gold drop to an even 7-7 on the season and 0-4 in SoCon action, while the Eagles improve to 5-12, and 1-5 in league play.
Typically strong in doubles action, the Apps were only able to grab one win out of three matches and GSU took the early 1-0 match lead after winning the doubles point.
The duo of
Trent Constance and
Peter Jacobs had no trouble with their competitors at the number one spot, cruising to an 8-2 win. Unfortunately, the team of
Philip Kloc and
Alain Humblet fell short at the two spot, losing 8-6 and
Andrew McKinnonn and
Ezekiel Sansing also lost at the three position, losing 8-2.
In singles play, Jacobs had an impressive performance, beating Jayraj Jadeja 7-6, 6-4 at the one position.
Constance suffered a two set defeat at the two spot however, while Humblet won his 11th singles match of the season, handing Matthijs Verdam a three set defeat.
After downing Alain Garrido in the first set at the four spot, Kloc lost in the next two sets by a score of 6-4, 6-3.
McKinnon won his second straight conference match, while Sansing fell in two sets at the five and six spot and GSU went on to eek out the 4-3 match victory.
The Apps return to action Saturday April 3, as they travel to Chattanooga to battle the Mocs at 1 p.m.
