Spring Practice Report: Thursday, March 18
BOONE, N.C. - Appalachian State University football wrapped up its third week of spring practice with a two-hour workout on Thursday afternoon at Kidd Brewer Stadium.

After taking last week off for spring break, the Mountaineers returned to the field on Monday and held their seventh, eighth, ninth and 10th practices of the spring this week. Appalachian will wrap up the 15 practices allowed by the NCAA during the spring next week.

Thursday's practice was conducted in helmets, shoulder pads and sweats with limited contact. However, it was only the second outdoor session of the spring, which allowed ASU to put even more emphasis on special-teams drills than it can indoors at the Sofield Family Indoor Practice Facility.

The two-hour practice concluded with about 15 minutes of 11-on-11 work but contact was limited due to the Mountaineers not being in full pads and exclusively featured plays that started inside the defense's 40-yard line. Appalachian's offense took advantage of the limited contact and field position to shine in the full-team drills.

The quarterbacks battling to replace Armanti Edwards as ASU's starting signal-caller next fall — junior DeAndre Presley and redshirt freshman Jamal Jackson — tossed two touchdown passes apiece with running back Rod Chisholm and wideouts Blake Elder, Rodger Walker and Tony Washington on the receiving end of the scoring strikes. However, the offensive player that stood out the most was running back Devon Moore, who broke off several long gains and made the play of the day when he left several defenders in his wake with a spin move on a pickup of several yards.

Defensively, middle linebacker Jeremy Kimbrough continued his outstanding spring with a sack during the 11-on-11 drills.
