Women's Tennis Suffers 7-0 Defeat to Elon
ELON, N.C.- Appalachian State University women's tennis dropped a tough 7-0 decision to Southern Conference competitor Elon Wednesday afternoon, as the Mountaineers were unable to keep pace with a strong Elon team. With the loss, ASU drops to an even 6-6 on the season and a winless 0-2 in SoCon action, while Elon improves to a stout 12-3 on the season and undefeated 3-0 in conference play.

In doubles play, the team of Ellie Linsell and Olivia Stannard fell 8-1 to Anna Milian and Elisa Simonetti at the number one spot. Jennifer Ansari and Gisela Fernandez however got the Apps back on track beating Briana Berne and Laura Graybill 8-4 at the number three position.

Pushing their opponents to the brink and giving an impressive effort, Blakeley Bean and Laura Janke came up just short in the match deciding the doubles point, as they narrowly lost 9-7 at the three spot to give Elon the early 1-0 match lead.

The Phoenix took the decisive 2-0 match lead when Stannard lost in two sets, falling 6-0, 6-0 to Simonetti at the three spot. Things did not get much easier for the Black and Gold in singles action, as Linsell could not keep pace with Milian dropping a 6-1, 6-3 decision at the one position.

In the match that decided the outcome of the contest Janke posted a solid performance, but could never get over the hump, losing 6-4, 6-4 at the six spot to Hayley Wahl.

Ansari, Bean and Caroline Mauch all suffered the same fates as their teammates as each lost in their respective singles matches, with Bean and Mauch both falling in three sets.

Looking to get back on track, ASU continues with its road stint, as the Apps head to Spartanburg, S.C. to battle Wofford, Saturday March 20. The match is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
