Men's Golf Places Fifth in Spring Fling

HOWEY IN THE HILLS, Fla. - Jacob Eggers tied for the tournament lead after one round and finished in fifth place at 72-76=148 (+6) to help Appalachian State University men's golf to a fifth place finish at the Mission Inn Spring Fling over the weekend.

The Mountaineers shot a 304 on Saturday and followed it with a 313 on Sunday to finish 49-over par at 617.

Jake Wiesehan tied for 25th place out of 62 competitors with a 76-79=155 (+13), while three Apps tied for 39th place.

Casey Johnson carded a 77-81=158 (+16) and was joined by Drew Harris (76-82) and Dustin Hudson (79-79).

Josh Nichols was right behind at 82-77=159 (+17) for 43rd place and Lance Wheeler finished 44th at 81-79=160 (+18).

St. Leo took home the team title at 305-293=598 (+30) and the team's Mark McGuire finished with a 76-69=145 (+3) to earn the individual title.

The Mountaineers return to action on Friday at the Furman Intercollegiate in Greenville, S.C.
