Softball Opens SoCon Play with 5-2 win Over Samford

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Allie Cashion and Sarah Rappe each had a pair of RBI to lead Appalachian State University softball to a 5-2 win over Samford Saturday evening.  Game two was postponed and will be made up as part of a doubleheader tomorrow.

Samford (7-9) took the lead in the bottom of the first but ASU tied the score in the third with an RBI double by Rappe.

ASU took its first lead of the game in the fourth.  Michelle Lighton led off with a single and Cashion belted a home run to give the Apps a 3-1 lead.

The bulldogs closed the gap to 3-2 when Robyn Harmon scored on a passed ball, but the Mountaineers struck back with two insurance runs in the top of the seventh.

Megan Rembielak and Rappe each drove in runs in the final inning while Frannie Seader shut the door to secure the 5-2 win.

Seader earned her fourth win of the year, pitching five innings, allowing three hits and one run.
