Men's Tennis Blanks Winston-Salem State and Catawba 7-0

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.- Appalachian State University men's tennis captured its fourth-straight win Sunday , as the Apps downed Winston-Salem State and Catawba. With the victory, ASU improves to 4-1 on the 2009-10 campaign.

The Mountaineers raced past their opponents in doubles play, as the Black and Gold went 3-0 in doubles action.

The team of Trent Constance and Peter Jacobs had no trouble with Brian Coxton and Ian Hunter at the number one doubles spot, winning 8-1, while Philip Kloc and Alain Humblet downed their competitors as well, winning by the same score.

Seeing his first match action of the year, freshman Chris Mauch and partner Britton Webb easily defeated Antentor Hinton and Brooks Calvin, notching an 8-0 victory.

Appalachian had no problems in singles action either, winning all six matches.

Constance defeated Coxton at the number one singles position winning 6-3, 6-1 and Humblet saw action at the number two spot, winning 6-0, 6-0.

Freshmen Andrew McKinnonn and Luka Vujinovic were successful against Winston-Salem Stats as well, both grabbing two set victories at the three and four spots.

Jordan Moser and Russ Ferrari rounded out the match at the five and six positions, downing their opponents each picking up wins in two sets.

Appalachian's strong play continued against Catawba as the Mountaineers' won all six singles matches and all three doubles match once again.

Kloc and Humblet defeated their opponent at the number one doubles spot, winning 8-2, while Ezekiel Sansing and McKinnonn won 8-1. Keeping ASU perfect in doubles play, Vujinovic and Moser beat Corey Eldridge and Cyle Peterson 8-3.

Taking over the number one singles spot, Jacobs and Constance raced past their opponents, downing them in two sets, while Kloc and Sansing earned wins at the three and four spots.

Webb and Mauch were also victorious at the five and six singles positions.

The Apps' return to action Saturday February 27, as they travel to Columbia, S.C. to take on South Carolina.
