BANNER ELK, N.C.- Appalachian State University women's tennis continued its strong play Friday evening, as the Mountaineers ran past Lees-McRae, defeating the Lady Bobcats 5-0. With the win, ASU improves to 2-1 on the young season.

The Black and Gold started the match off on an impressive note, winning all three doubles matches.

The duo of Olivia Stannard and Ellie Linsell defeated their opponents at the number one doubles spot, winning 8-6. Blakeley Bean and Gislea Fernandez were successful at the number two spot as well, beating Christine Vanard and Cameron Joyce 8-2.

Keeping the Black and Gold spotless in doubles action, Jennifer Ansari and Laura Janke downed Brianna Fulp and Maria Andrade 8-4.

Due to weather concerns, only four singles matches were played, but the Apps were able to pick up victories in all four matches.

Linsell was stout at the number one singles position, beating Gabriela Celia 7-6, 7-5, while Ansari handed Vanard a 6-2, 6-1 loss at the number two singles spot.

Caroline Mauch and Fernandez rounded out singles action on a strong note, each beating their competitors in two straight sets at the three and four spots.

Appalachian returns to action Tuesday February 16, as the Apps head to Boiling Springs, N.C. to take on Gardner-Webb at 2:30 p.m.
