Postgame Quotes vs. Western Illinois

WESTERN ILLINOIS

Head Coach Mark Hendrickson

"I'm very proud of the Leatherneck football team today, as I have been all fall.  This team in 2009 lost ten football games in a row.  They got to this point and I am very proud of them, as all Leatherneck fans are.  I know that they didn't give up today.  However, we played a very good team here at App State.  They were certainly the better team today, and they are very, very good as everybody here knows.  They are coached very well by Coach Moore, and I understand why they are the number one seed.  They've earned that in my book, and we'll be cheering for them down the road."

Quarterback Matt Barr

"The snowfall itself wasn't too big of a deal.  I think the footing had a little bit to do with receivers getting in and out of their breaks and that created a challenge for us, and ASU's good pass rush made it difficult too."

"Early on, Appalachian State did a great job of stopping the run and getting penetration in the backfield.  When they do that, it forces teams to be one dimensional and they can really attack the passer, and they did that really well today."

On Presley:  "He's a great player.  It's obvious to see why he's come that far in the race for the Payton Award.  He deserves to be there; he made a lot of great plays today."

Linebacker Kyle Glazier

"We knew coming in that (DeAndre) he's a great player who has a tremendous amount of speed.  Today, we thought that maybe we had little bit of an advantage with the snow and the sleet coming down that it would slow him down a little bit, but obviously it didn't.  He's a great player and he got loose a few times, and they played really well today."

"We knew that as a passer (Presley) likes to take a couple of reads and then he likes to get out of the pocket and run.  Our main objective was to make sure he didn't scramble on us, and keep him in the pocket.  Obviously he had a couple of big runs, and overall they outplayed us today."

APPALACHIAN STATE

Quarterback DeAndre Presley

"Today was fun.  One, I got to play in the snow.  I always dreamed of playing in the snow.  Coach Glenn told me quarterback runs would be big today.  He asked me on Thursday if I thought I could get 175 yards rushing.  My response was; 'I can get 200 if you let me.'  Last night I sat down and prayed to God about it and I was blessed, so today was a fun day."

Center Brett Irvin

"The snow did play a part in our play calling.  We decided to start running it up the middle and go right at them."

Jabari Fletcher

"We played assignment football.  It starts with film study, you can be the greatest athlete in the world but if you don't study what's going on you don't have a chance."

Coach Moore

"I'm tremendously proud of our football team today.  We controlled all three phases of the game from offense to defense to kicking.  When you do that, you can't help but feel good about it."

"I've been here 22 years and we've never played a game in the snow.  It wasn't like we had a warm-up for this.  Those officials told us all day what an awesome job our grounds people were doing."
