Wrestling Finishes Action at Southern Scuffle

GREENSBORO, N.C.- Appalachian State University wrestling wrapped up competition at the annual Southern Scuffle hosted by UNC Greensboro on Thursday afternoon.

After day one of the Southern Scuffle, the Mountaineers advanced three wrestlers to the final day of action.

At 149 pounds, Appalachian sent junior Savva Kostis to the mat on the final day after Kostis posted a 2-1 record on day one and earned a bye in the consolation round. Kostis lost a tight decision to Liberty's Scott Clymer, 9-7 though to end his participation in the tournament.

Junior Kyle Blevins was the bright spot for ASU on the second day of action at 165. Blevins, who earned three wins against no defeats on the first day, lost his first match of the tournament to Dan Yates (Michigan), 4-2, sending Blevins to the consolation round. Blevins rebounded and posted back-to- back decisions against Virginia Tech's Chris Moon, 6-1, and Kent State's Ross Tice, 5-3. Blevins ran into Paul Gillespie of Hofstra and fell 3-2 to end his day on the mat.

Senior Dylan Temple wrestled unattached for the Mountaineers at 197 pounds in his first matches of the season and recorded a 2-1 record on the first day of action. But Temple was halted on the second day by Charles Johnson (Oregon State), 10-2 in his only match on day two.

The Apps start the New Year off on January 4th, as they host Virginia Tech and Campbell in Varsity Gym, with matches starting at 4 p.m.
