Postgame Quotes vs. Wofford

Appalachian State Quotes

Defensive tackle Bobby Bozzo
On the team's defensive success...

"The way they drilled it into our heads all week that we had to do one thing up front and that was stop No. 7. They just drilled it into our heads every day, and we had pictures of Breitenstein in our lockers. Since he is from the area and we recruited him, we knew what we were going to see, and we didn't take it lightly at all."

Running back Devon Moore
On his rushing success...

"We changed up a little bit on our offensive line blocking scheme, and we went back to what we did last year with the zone. The change opened up more holes, and my legs felt the best they have the whole year. We also added a few new plays that seemed to work well for us."

Head coach Jerry Moore
Commenting on coming into this game...

"After the loss at Georgia Southern last week, you can call it a wake-up call, we had a great week of practices, especially on Wednesday. Practicing well doesn't guarantee that you will play that way, but it sure gives a coach a good feeling going into the game."

Coach Moore's biggest play of the game...

"The biggest play of the game for me was the fumble on the kickoff right before halftime with two minutes remaining. I told the kickoff team to do a great job on the coverage and get them inside the 20, and they responded with a great play."

On winning six straight SoCon titles...

"I am really proud and happy with our players and fans in helping us win six championships, especially with the buildup of this one when Wofford was ranked No. 4. It is a neat kind of a win for us."

On Devon Moore...

"I am proud of Devon Moore. He was a Walter Payton candidate in the beginning of the season, and then he got hurt during camp and missed a couple weeks. Devon knew his role tonight, and he played like a great running back on the field."

About Florida next week...

"Let us enjoy this one. We haven't even though about Florida. The only thing that I know is that their colors are orange and blue, and they got an alligator. But we haven't even thought about them because we focused everything on Wofford."

Wofford Quotes

Head coach Mike Ayers

"They were a complete football team.  When you look at the game, quite frankly, we were two-thirds of a football team for the first half. We started off so bad offensively that we couldn't give our defense an opportunity to rest. We had four turnovers today. They (Appalachian State) are going to take the opportunities that you give them. They came ready to play.We had a great week of practice and we had a good plan, but for whatever reason, it just didn't quite go the way that we thought it would. Our guys kept battling all the way through. If there is one thing that we thought, we knew it was going to be a hard fought game, but we thought it would be a better matchup with our offense against their defense. Hats off to Jerry (Moore) and his staff. They did a great job with preparation. I thought our defense, as many times as they had to go out there, they played extremely well.  Appalachian is an explosive football team and we gave them way too many chances. If you give them too many chances , you run the risk of them having the right matchup for them and the wrong matchup for us. I thought they played really well and they played hard. They are a great football team. They outplayed us. With that being said, this is our first loss and we got one more challenge ahead and that is Chattanooga. We are going to have to go back to the drawing board and reset our mind. We didn't have the ability to do the things that we needed to do, whether it was a missed block or a missed read, or a pitch. Again all the credit goes to Jerry (Moore) and his staff. They got it done tonight and we didn't."

"They ran a 4-3 scheme and they put a linebacker on him (Eric Breitenstein). Everytime we tried to run the ball inside, that guy was coming. They had a nice scheme. We were able to get the ball to the fullback a couple of times during the game, but overall I thought they did a nice job of scheming on us. We didn't adjust well enough or give ourselves the chance that we needed. A lot of the times, offensively for us, we would get out there and have it eight to 10 snaps and see what they were doing. We did a lot of three and out."

Fullback Eric Breitenstein

"We turned the ball over four times and when you turn the ball over four times against a great team like this, you are not going to win unless you are just really lucky."
