BOONE, N.C.- Appalachian State University men's soccer (7-6-3, 4-2-1 SoCon) squares off with East Tennessee State (12-5, 7-2 A-Sun) in its regular season finale on Tuesday (Nov. 2) as part of Senior Night at 7 p.m. at ASU Soccer Stadium.
The Mountaineers are coming off a 2-2 double overtime draw against College of Charleston.
Appalachian was down in the match 2-0 before the Cougars committed a foul that set up a penalty kick for sophomore David Dodge at 82:41. Dodge nailed the penalty kick for his first goal of the season and cut down the Cougar lead to one.
Dodge had his next shot attempt blocked at 87:35, but freshman Harrison Delbridge came through to net his first goal of the season on his only shot attempt of the match at 89:01 to set up the 2-2 draw and send the match into overtime where neither team was able to go ahead.
The Buccaneers dropped an overtime heartbreaker to #4 North Carolina, 1-2 in the 94th minute of action on Saturday. The loss ended an 11-match win streak for ETSU, but did not hurt its postseason seeding as they clinched the top seed in the Atlantic Sun Tournament due to a 1-1 double overtime draw between Stetson and Jacksonville Sunday afternoon.
The match is the fifth meeting between the two foes as the Mountaineers hold a 4-0 advantage in the series. Last time the two squads met was in 2008 when ASU claimed a 3-1 victory over the Bucs in Johnson City, Tenn.
The Mountaineers, who are a perfect 5-0 at home this season, have clinched home field advantage in the first round of the Southern Conference tournament, which will take place at the ASU Soccer Stadium at 3 p.m. with the opponent still to be determined with one league match still remaining between Furman and Wofford tomorrow at 7 p.m.
Appalachian will honor its three seniors, Steven Sassano, Antonio Harley and Drake Branson at halftime of the match between the Apps and the Bucs.
