Kloc Shines for Men's Tennis at Wofford Invitational

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Appalachian State University men's tennis has an impressive start to the Wofford Invitational on its first day of competition.

Philip Kloc had a strong showing for the Mountaineers as he went 3-0 during the first day in Spartanburg, S.C.

App started off in the morning with four doubles matches against Furman, and it won three of them. Kloc and Alain Humblet cruised to an 8-3 victory in the first doubles match. Alex Markov and Andrew McKinnon followed suit in their match as they pulled out an 8-6 win. Matt Saltsgaver and Ezekiel Sansing also claimed a doubles victory by winning 8-5.

Later on in the day, ASU faced SoCon foe Wofford in eight singles matches, winning half of them. Kloc walked through Wofford's senior Alan Donald with a 6-1, 6-3 triumph. McKinnon also had a fairly easy match as he won 6-3, 6-4 over Drew Superstein. Chris Mauch and Sansing also won in their singles matches.

Appalachian ended the day with singles matches against Asheville. The Black and Gold won three of four matches against the Bulldogs. Kloc continued his hot streak in a comeback win against Matt Waissen 4-6, 6-4, 10-7. Markov also came back from a 4-6 deficit to win the last two sets 6-1, 10-7. Humblet won his only singles match of the day in a cake walk, 6-0, 6-4. The Mountaineers' only loss came in McKinnon's match as he retired early due to a hamstring injury.

App returns to action tomorrow morning at 9.m. with a busy day of eight singles and eight doubles.
