BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Appalachian State University wrestling dominated at Campbell Saturday afternoon, romping the Camels 43-4 in Buies Creek.
Chip Powell won the opening match at 157 by pinning Jake Fose in the second period to give ASU a 6-0 lead and the rout was on. Zack Mastro gave ASU another six points with a forfeit victory at 165 pounds.
Kyle Blevins, Austin Trotman and Dylan Temple all wrestled a weight class above what they normally do, but all three came away with wins. Blevins led the trio by defeating John Merickel 9-5 at 174. Trotman followed with his first pin of the season by pinning Justin Sparrow at the 1:49 mark of the first period. Temple wrestled at 197 for the second-straight match, and earned his second-straight win at the weight class with a 10-1 major decision win over Parker Burns.
Ken Altarac added six points with a forfeit win. Campbell got their only points of the afternoon at 125, where C.J. Gittens defeated Brett Boston 10-1.
Jacob Earp and Chris Collura followed that with back-to-back decisions before Savva Kostis ended the match with another forfeit victory for ASU.
The Mountaineers improve to 2-6 on the season while Campbell drops to 0-5.
Appalachian will host UNC Greensboro and Virginia in their home opener on Thursday, Jan. 14. ASU will wrestle UNC Greensboro at 6 p.m. and wrestle the Cavaliers at 7:30 P.M.
