BLACKSBURG, Va. - Virginia Tech won seven of the first eight matches en route to a 32-16 win over Appalachian State University wrestling Monday night in Blacksburg.

Virginia Tech improves to 7-1 with the win while ASU drops to 1-6 on the season.  Two of the six losses have come to ranked opponents ( ASU lost to No. 8 Nebraska earlier in the year).

The Hokies started quickly when No. 7 Jarrod Garnett defeated Brett Boston 17-4 at the 125 pound weight class.  Brock LiVorio gave Virginia Tech a 10-0 lead when he pinned Jacob Earp in the second period.  Chris Diaz gave the home team five more points with a 17-2 tech. fall over Chris Collura.

The Mountaineers got on the board when Savva Kostis pinned Nick Murray in the second period.  Murray got on the board first and built up a 6-2 second period lead.  Kostis earned a two-point reversal and used the momentum to pin Murray to get ASU on the board.

Virginia Tech won the next four matches to bring the lead to 32-6 and clinch the win for the Hokies.

The Black and Gold got on the board again when Dylan Temple defeated Virginia Tech's Chris Penny 10-1.  Temple earned his 12th win of the season despite wrestling at 197, up a weight class from his normal 184.

ASU finished the night with two-straight wins as Kenneth Altarac got a forfeit victory to end the night.
