ASU Athletics Mourns the Loss of Will Dicus

BOONE, N.C. ? Will Dicus, the son of Appalachian State University men's golf coach Bill Dicus, died on Monday night at Watauga Medical Center. He was 18.

Will Dicus was diagnosed with Ewings Sarcoma, a form of bone cancer, at age 13. One of the area's top baseball players at the time of the diagnosis, Will continued his playing career at Watauga High School as his condition would allow, despite having part of his leg bone removed due to the illness. He was scheduled to graduate from Watauga on Saturday.

“On behalf of the entire Appalachian athletics family, I extend our deepest condolences to Bill, Pepi and the entire Dicus family,” ASU director of athletics Charlie Cobb said. “Will's courage and the sacrifices that Bill and Pepi made throughout Will's fight are examples that all of us can learn from.”

Funeral Arrangements

A Celebration of Life for Will Dicus will be held on Sunday June 7 at 3 p.m. at Boone United Methodist Church. A covered dish dinner will follow at the church. Those attending are asked to bring something to eat for the cover dish dinner. The family requests no food (other than the covered dish on Sunday) or flowers. Memorial contributions can be made to:

Early plans are to raise enough money to make a significant contribution to build a indoor batting and pitching facility at the new Watauga High School and name it in Will's honor.
