CHAPEL HILL, N.C.- Appalachian State University men's and women's track and field continued with its solid performances Friday evening as numerous Mountaineers posted impressive performances at the UNC Chick Fil A Meet.
In the high jump, sophomore Rebecca Hazeltine finished third overall and jumped 5-7.
Freshman Dennis Moore was strong in the 100m and 200m, placing eighth in the 100m with a time of 10.87, and coming in seventh in the 200m with a new personal best time of 21.40. Phillip Bush came in 28th in the 200m dash, with a time of 22.65.
John Svoboda finished seventh in the 400m dash with a time of 47.97 a new personal best time in the event.
Daniel Neal took home 10th and 13th place finishes in the 110m and 400m hurdles, with marks of 14.58 and 54.41.
Freshman Darius Purcell posted one of the most impressive outings of the afternoon, notching a first place mark in the high jump with a new personal best leap of 6-11. The leap keeps him at sixth on Appalachian's all-time list in the event.
In the pole vault, Matt Boruff and Mike Wilson vaulted 15-7 and 15-1 good enough for 13th and 17th place finishes.
In the throwing events, Malcolm Styers notched a eighth place finish in the shot put while Jared Stalling came in tenth.
Jered Gardner paced ASU in the discus with a ninth place showing with a throw of 152-9, while Stalling, Styers and Caleb Poplin placed 11th, 14th and 17th respectively.
Styers was also strong in the hammer, earning a runner-up spot with a toss of 179-2, while Stalling came in eighth with a throw of 159-8.
The Apps return to action Friday May 15, as they head to the last chance meet at Georgia Tech.
