ASU Athletics Teams Up with March of Dimes to Host March For Babies
BOONE, N.C. ? Appalachian State University athletics has teamed up with the High Country March of Dimes to host the 2009 March For Babies on Sunday, April 26 at Kidd Brewer Stadium. The event begins at 3 p..m. (check -in at 2:30 p.m.).

The March For Babies is the March of Dimes' largest annual fundraising event. This year's version in the High Country will feature fun for the whole family, including games and inflatable rides for kids, food and the opportunity to walk, run or play on the KBS track and playing surface. ASU student-athletes, coaches and cheerleaders will be on hand for the event.

The entire community is invited to join in on the fun by making a $20 donation per family to the cause. Donations will be collected at all three Mountaineer baseball games versus Wofford this weekend at Smith Stadium as well as at the gate on Sunday. Families can also sign up and/or donate in advance by clicking here.

The March For Babies is a special cause for Appalachian athletics, as ASU staff members have welcomed more than a dozen babies into the world over the past 24 months. Some directly benefitted from the March of Dimes' efforts, including 2009 High Country March For Babies Ambassador (and ardent supporter of the Mountaineers!) Kellan Flynn.

Kellan was born nine-and-a-half weeks premature in May 2007 and spent the first month of her life in the neonatal ICU at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. However, at almost two years old, she is now a healthy toddler, thanks in large part to the research and technology made possible by funding from the March of Dimes.

Additionally, ASU director of athletics Charlie Cobb and assistant women's soccer coach Lindsay Cobb, are local co-chairpersons for this year's March For Babies event. Their children, Harrison and Branan, were also born prematurely and now lead healthy lives.
