CULLOWHEE, N.C. -Every Appalachian State University softball starter had at least a hit or an RBI as the Mountaineers completed the doubleheader sweep with a 5-1 victory over Western Carolina Wednesday evening. Appalachian won game one 4-2.

The Mountaineers (19-23, 11-9) scored all five runs in the fourth inning, starting with a home run by Katie Boyd. The homer is Boyd's SoCon leading 13th bomb of the year and she set a new ASU career record with her 22nd homer of her career. The Mountaineers continued the onslaught with four more runs off of an RBI single by Stubbs, an Whitlock RBI fielders choice and an McIntyre RBI groundout.

Kayla Richardson earned her single-season career high 10th win of the season, allowing just four hits and one unearned run.

ASU improved to 16-6 when they score first and the 11 SoCon wins ties the most in school history. 

Andrea McIntyre drove in three runs and Ashley Stubbs stranded 11 Western Carolina (10-25, 6-9) base-runners to lead Appalachian State University softball to a 4-2 win in game one of today's doubleheader.

McIntyre got Appalachian on the board first with a two-run double in the second inning. Michelle Lighton gave the Mountaineers a 3-0 lead with an RBI single in the third inning.

The Catamounts got two unearned runs in the sixth, but ASU got a run back in the seventh. Meagan Squartino led off with a hit and advanced to second. Pinch runner Lindsay Whitlock scored on McIntyre's second RBI hit of the game.

ASU left a season-high 14 runners on base while the Catamounts stranded 11.

Stubbs allowed two runners on in the seventh but induced a ground ball out for the final out of the game. She scattered eight hits, pitching her 11th complete game of the season.

Megan Rembielak, Brittany Gaston and McIntyre all had two hits for ASU. Chelsea Schaffer and Keri Burnside had two hits apiece for the Catamounts.

The Mountaineers return to home this weekend to host Furman in the final Southern Conference series of the season.
