Women's Tennis Drops 7-0 Decision to UNCG

BOONE, N.C.- Appalachian State University women's tennis could not withstand a tough UNCG squad Tuesday afternoon, as the Mountaineers fell to the Spartans 7-0 Tuesday afternoon at the Grandfather Mountain tennis courts. With the loss the Apps drop to 8-14 overall and 2-6 in the SoCon, while UNCG improves to 14-5 overall and 8-2 in league play.

In doubles action, Lindsay King and Heather Prior lost to their opponents at the number two spot, falling 8-3, while Amanda Cash and Laura Janke were also unable to earn a win, dropping an 8-3 decision at the number three spot. The duo of Olivia Stannard and Gisela Fernandez posted a solid effort, but came up short, losing 8-4 to Alejandra Guerra and Arielle VonShrolley at the number one position.

Cash was defeated at the number one singles spot by Guerra, falling 6-1, 6-1 while King also lost at the number two spot in two sets.

Junior Caroline Mauch had one of the most impressive performances of the afternoon, as she lost a tough battle to VonShrolley in two close sets, falling 6-4, 6-4.

Capping off the match, Prior, Fernandez and Stannard were all unable to notch wins as well, at the four, five and six spots.

The Mountaineers return to action Wednesday April 15, as they host Elon at 3 p.m.
