Charlotte Too Much for Women's Tennis, Lose 7-0

CHARLOTTE, N.C.- Appalachian State University women's tennis was unable to hang with Charlotte Wednesday afternoon as the Black and Gold lost 7-0 to the 49ers. With the loss ASU falls to 3-10 on the season while Charlotte improves to 8-3.

In doubles play Amand Cash and Heather lost at the number one spot, dropping an 8-0 decision to the team of Ana Spivakosky and Yudeshnee Pillay, while Lindsay King and Blakeley Bean posted a valiant effort but were also unable to come up with a win losing 8-5. Rounding out doubles play, Laura Janke and Gisela Fernandez lost in a close match to their competition 7-6 in a 7-2 tiebreaker.

Prior was defeated at the number one singles spot losing to Pillay in two sets 6-1, 6-2 while Cash and Bean also faced the same fate falling to their competition at both the two and three positions.

Caroline Mauch played a solid match at the number four flight, but fell just short losing 7-5, 7-5 to Gabi Vergara, while King also had strong play at the number five spot, but was unable to earn a win in two close sets.

Fernadez was defeated at the number six singles spot to cap off doubles play.

The Black and Gold return to action Thursday March 26, as the Apps take on UC Bakersfield in Greensboro, N.C. at 2 p.m.
