CHARLESTON, S.C.- The College of Charleston ended Appalachian State University's men's tennis five match winning streak and handed the Mountaineers their worst loss of the 2009 campaign, as the Black and Gold were unable to hang with a tough Cougar squad, falling 7-0 in ASU's second SoCon defeat of the season. With the loss, the Apps drop to 9-4 on the season and 1-2 in SoCon play, while CofC improves to 5-5 overall and 2-0 in the league.
The afternoon got off to a rocky start for the Apps who lost all three doubles matches.
The duo of Bobby Lake and Lee Floyd fell in hotly contested battle 8-6 at the number one position, while Trent Constance and Peter Jacobs lost 8-2 at the number two position and Britton Webb and Phillip Kloc were defeated at the number three position 8-3.
ASU struggled in singles action as well, as the Cougars were able to win every flight.
Lake fell at the number one spot 6-3, 6-4 while Constance's opponent proved to be too much at the number two spot, also losing in two straight sets.
Jacobs and Floyd dropped their matches at the three and four positions, while Kloc and Alain Humblet were unsuccessful on the afternoon as well, losing 6-4, 6-3 and 7-5, 6-2 to their competition.
Appalachian takes a much needed rest before returning to action Wednesday March 18, taking on SoCon rival Furman at 2:30 p.m. at the ASU tennis courts.
