Coach Lake Earns 100th Career Win, Men's Tennis Downs The Citadel 7-0

CHARLESTON, S.C.- Head Coach Bob Lake notched his 100th career win, and Appalachian State University men's tennis earned a stellar win over SoCon foe The Citadel Thursday afternoon, handily defeating the Bulldogs 7-0 at the Earle Tennis Center. The win puts the Apps at 1-1 in league play and at 9-3 on the season, while The Citadel drops to 6-4 overall and 1-1 in conference play.

ASU easily ran through doubles action, winning all three matches.

The duo of Lee Floyd and Bobby Lake defeated Yufo Sutantio and Michael Kociecki 8-5 at the number one doubles spot, while teammates Peter Jacobs and Trent Constance followed suit beating Alberto Diaz and Derek Dickey by the same score at the number two spot. Keeping Appalachian perfect in doubles play, the team of Britton Webb and Philip Kloc were victorious at the number three spot, winning 8-4.

Lake continued his strong play at the number one singles flight, winning 6-4, 6-2 over Sutantio, and Constance took his opponent to three sets. but was able to earn another win for the Black and Gold.

Jacobs' and Floyd's matches also were pushed to three sets, but both were victorious at the number three and four positions as Jacobs rallied a comeback after falling behind in the first set and Floyd did the same.

Kloc and Alain Humblet capped off a spotless afternoon for the Mountaineers, defeating their competition 6-3, 6-1 and 6-3, 6-0 to help give ASU the win.

The win over The Citadel is ASU's third straight dating back to 2005 season.

Appalachian continues with its road stint, as the Apps take on the College of Charleston, Friday March 13 at 2 p.m.
