ORLANDO, FLA.- Capping off their trip to Florida, Appalachian State University women's tennis was unable to hang with Creighton in their second match on Wednesday afternoon, as the Black and Gold fell to the Bluejays 5-1. WIth the loss ASU falls to 3-8 on the season while CU improves to 4-3.
Despite putting up a solid effort, Creighton won all three doubles matches.
The duo of Gisela Fernandez and Olivia Stannard lost in a hard fought match at the number one doubles spot, falling 8-6 to Nicole Nakaoka and Tess Reddin. Blakeley Bean and Laura Janke were also unable to come away with a win at the number two spot, dropping an 8-4 decision, while Amanda Cash and Caroline Mauch faced the same fate at the number three position, losing 8-6 to Lauren Mastro and Kelsey Schmidt.
Cash, Bean, Prior and Mauch all fell at the number one through four spots, each falling in two sets, while Stannard notched Appalachian's lone win in singles play, defeating Sarah Cadwallader 6-4, 6-3.
The Mountaineers take a quick break, before returning to action Friday March 13, as the Apps play their second SoCon match of the season, taking on the College of Charleston in Charleston, S.C. at 1 p.m.
