ORLANDO, FLA.- Appalachian State University women's tennis notched an impressive win Wednesday afternoon, as the Mountaineers defeated South Dakota 7-0. With the win, ASU improves to 3-7 on the season, while USD drops to 3-6.
The Black and Gold posted a strong start to the match as the Apps swept through doubles competition.
At the number one doubles spot, the duo of Gisela Fernandez and Olivia Stannard cruised past their opponents winning 8-3, while Blakeley Bean and Lindsay King were also victorious at the number two doubles position also winning 8-3. Rounding out doubles play, Caroline Mauch and Laura Janke downed Melanie Rockne and Janea Hagen at the number three spot, grabbing an 8-2 win.
ASU was also able to earn wins in all its singles matches against South Dakota.
Cash picked up a win at the number one singles spot, defeating her competition in two sets, 7-6, 6-3, while Bean easily won at the number two spot, defeating Rijalda Zejnic 6-1, 6-1.
Heather Prior and Mauch both also earned wins at the three and four spots, while Fernandez and Stannard helped ASU to stay spotless in singles play, winning at the five and six positions.
