ATHENS, OHIO - Chip Powell won both of his matches but Appalachian State University wrestling went winless against Cleveland State and Ohio Friday afternoon at Ohio.
The Mountaineers took on Cleveland State in their first match of the day and got in a early hole after dropping the 125 match by a technical fall. Frank Celorrio got ASU right back in it by winning in a technical fall of his own.
After dropping the 141 pound match, the Apps took a 15-11 lead with back-to-back wins from Savva Kostis and Powell. After suffering two-straight losses Dylan Temple gave ASU its last lead of the match winning in a technical fall, 18-3. However, the Black and Gold lost the last two matches to suffer a 28-20 defeat.
Appalachian fell to Ohio 26-9 in the second match of the day.
Tony Gravely gave ASU its first and only lead of the match by defeating Jake Wocjik 7-5.
Appalachian lost the next three matches but got back in the match when Powell and Kyle Blevins won back-to-back matches at 157 pounds to bring the score to 11-9.
The Apps could not get any closer as the Bobcats won the final four matches for the 26-9 win.
The Mountaineers return to action when they host Virginia in the home opener on Saturday, Dec. 19 at 7 p.m.
