Men's Golf Closes Fall at Hummingbird Intercollegiate

SAPPHIRE, N.C. - Casey Johnson placed 38th in a tough field with a 73-73-146 (+4) to lead Appalachian State University men's golf to 18th place at the Hummingbird Intercollegiate on Monday and Tuesday. The Mountaineers finished with scores of 293-304-598 (+29).

The senior was followed by Jake Wiesehan's 73-75-148 (+6) in 47th place and Lance Wheeler in 64th at 71-79-150 (+8).

Jacob Eggers placed 97th at 80-77-157 (+15), just ahead of teammate Dustin Hudson, who carded a 76-82-158 (+16) for 100th place.

Furman's Garland Ferrell won the individual title at 67-68-135 (-7) and the Paladins claimed the team title at 567 (-1).

The Apps were just one stroke behind 17th-place Gardner-Webb.

The tournament concludes ASU's fall season and will return to the course in March at the North/South Intercollegiate.
