BOONE, N.C. — A day after being named the Southern Conference Offensive Player of the Year by the league's coaches, Appalachian State University quarterback Armanti Edwards was a unanimous selection as the SoCon's Roy M. “Legs” Hawley Offensive Player of the Year, as voted on by the league's media and announced Wednesday by the conference office.
The SoCon Sports Media Association also voted 15 Mountaineers to its all-conference teams, including nine first-team honorees. Joining Edwards on the first team are running back Devon Moore, offensive linemen Mario Acitelli and Brett Irvin, defensive end Jabari Fletcher, linebacker D.J. Smith and defensive backs Mark LeGree and Cortez Gilbert and return specilaist CoCo Hillary.
Offensive lineman Pat Mills, tight end Ben Jorden, defensive end Lanston Tanyi, linebacker Jacque Roman, cornerback Ed Gainey and place kicker Jason Vitaris represent Appalachian on the media's second team.
ASU's 15 media all-conference honorees are nearly twice as many as the next-closest team, Elon, which had the second-most media all-SoCon selections with eight.
