POSTGAME NOTES
Team
• Appalachian (9-2, 8-0 SoCon) closed the regular season with its ninth-straight victory.
• The win gave ASU the Southern Conference championship outright.
• The win was ASU's 20th-straight in SoCon play, tying it with Alabama (1924-26) and Tulane (1929-32) for the second-longest conference winning streak in SoCon history (record: 30 – West Virginia, 1952-59).
• ASU defeated archrival Western Carolina (2-9, 1-7 SoCon) for the 23rd time in the last 25 meetings and the 13th-straight time in Boone (WCU's last win in Boone came in 1984).
• ASU opens play in the 2009 Division I Football Championship next Saturday (Nov. 28). ASU's first-round opponent and game site will be announced on Sunday at 3 p.m. on ESPNEWS.
• For the second-straight year, ASU overcame a halftime deficit to defeat WCU. ASU, which trailed 10-7 at the half last season in Cullowhee, was behind 7-3 at halftime on Saturday.
• ASU's fourth-quarter safety was its first since 2006 vs. Furman and the first allowed by WCU since 2007 vs. Chattanooga.
• ASU's 19 points were the fewest it has scored in a win since a 13-10 win at Furman in 2003.
Individual
• Appalachian quarterback Armanti Edwards (knee) did not play.
• ASU running back Devon Moore rushed for a career-high 191 yards on 25 carries (7.6 avg.) and scored two touchdowns (25 and 1 yards).
• Making his first-career start at QB, ASU's Travaris Cadet completed eight of 16 passes for 101 yards, and racked up 58 yards on 13 carrries.
