Men's Tennis Has Impressive Showing at Davidson Invite

DAVIDSON, N.C.- Continuing with their impressive fall season, Appalachian State University men's tennis had another strong outing Friday evening at the Davidson Invitational. Four Mountaineers went undefeated in singles action while the Black and Gold posted a stout 3-1 record in doubles play.

Senior Trent Constance went 2-1 against his opponents, falling to Evgeny Slesarev 2-6, 6-4, 10-2 of Gardner-Webb while handing Sebastian Fauchet a 6-4, 6-2 defeat.

Senior Peter Jacobs posted two standout performances on the day, rolling past Jeremie Tardif 6-4, 6-2 and beating William Mintor of Richmond. 6-3, 6-0.

Philip Kloc and Alain Humblet were also undefeated in singles action, defeating both of their opponents in two straight sets. Kloc beat Rafael Altmayer of Gardner-Webb 6-4, 6-4 while also beating Jesse Fedor 6-0, 1-6,10-6. Humblet beat Andrew Veeder and AJ Nelson 6-1, 7-5 and 6-3, 6-0.

Freshman Andrew McKinnon posted a 1-1 record in singles play, while teammate Britton Webb also went 1-1 on the afternoon.

The Apps closed out single play on a strong note, as Ezekiel Samsing won both of his matches, defeating Matthew Parker 6-0, 6-4 and Dylan Schrode of Richmond 6-0, 7-5.

Russ Ferrari closed out singles action with a 1-1 record.

In doubles play, the duo of Jacobs and Constance suffered the Apps lone loss, falling 8-7 to Slesarev and Altmayer of Gardner-Webb.

Kloc and Humblet were victorious over Tardif and Herrock, winning 8-2, while McKinnon and Webb won 8-3 as well.

In the final doubles match Samsing and Ferrari handed Veeder and Kenny an 8-2 defeat.

Overall the Apps went 12-4 on the day and 3-1 in doubles play.

ASU continues with the Davidson Invitational all day Saturday October 10.
