BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - Sean Dreybus scored two goals to lead Appalachian State University men's soccer to a 4-2 win Saturday night at Gardner-Webb.
After falling behind 1-0 in the first 10 minutes, Appalachian (6-8-1) reeled off four-straight goals to gain control of the match in sloppy field conditions.
Gardner-Webb (8-6-1) got on the board first when John Sargent got a feed from Gerald Hefferon and was able to place it inside the right post.
The Mountaineers answered just one minute later when
Arie Muniz sent a pass from right to left to
Ryan Duffy, who knocked it past the Bulldogs' keeper for his first goal of the season.
The score remained tied until the 55th minute, when
Tyler Regan received a cross pass from
Antonio Harley and beat Gardner-Webb goalkeeper Trent Kozman to give ASU the 2-1 lead.
Just seven minutes later, Dreybus scored the eventual game-winner when he got a cross pass from
Steven Sassano and beat Kozman to the back left post.
In the 68th minute, following a Gardner-Webb foul,
Mark Bridges took a free kick and passed to Dreybus who scored his second goal of the night and the fourth-straight for the Mountaineers'.
Jovan Ivanovich scored his first goal of the season for Garnder-Webb in the 74th minute, but ASU held on to record their first back-to-back wins of the 2009 season.
Collin Taylor earned his fourth win of the season, making three saves for ASU while Kozman took the loss, also making three saves.
The Mountaineers outshot Gardner-Webb 11-10, led by five shots from Dreybus while three Bulldogs had two shots apiece. Appalachian was called for offsides eight times in the match, this after being called for 15 offsides in last season's match against the 'Dogs.
ASU returns home for senior day on Tuesday, Nov. 3 when they UNC Asheville at 7 p.m. Appalachian will honor Muniz and
Kenny Orelaja.
