BOONE, N.C. -Appalachian State University wrestling opened its 2009 season on Wednesday night as the Mountaineers competed against each other in the annual intrasquad match.
The Mountaineers changed the format a little bit this season, with so many starting positions up for grabs, referees were brought into officiate.
In the first two matches of the night Brock Durfee defeated Will Lawrence 2-1 by earning the riding time point while Savva Kostis topped Richie Dehnz 5-2.
Freshman 125-pounder Tony Gravely won both of his matches while Kyle Blevins, Jacob Earp, Zack Mastro, Frank Celorrio, Dylan Temple and Austin Trotman all won two matches apiece.
Ken Altarac defeated Durfee in the second last match of the night to also go 2-0 while Mike Kessler pinned Chris Collura in the final match of the night to also go 2-0.
The Apps are back in action on Tuesday, Oct. 3 when they host the Black and Gold match. The regular-season will begin on Sunday, Nov. 15 when they travel to the Michigan State Open.
