Men's Tennis Closes Out Fall Season With Strong Showing at Charleston Invite

CHARLESTON, S.C.- Appalachian State University men's tennis continued with its impressive 2009 fall slate, as the Mountaineers capped off their fall campaign on a strong note at the College of Charleston Invitational. The Apps were in action Friday, Saturday and Sunday facing SoCon and out of conference opponents in both singles and doubles action.

In singles action on Friday, the Black and Gold faced a strong Charlotte squad and were able to post a 3-2 record against the 49ers.

Senior Trent Constance handed Moritz Bernhoerster a 6-2, 6-4 defeat while Peter Jacobs came up just short against Charles Martin-Lecamp falling 6-2, 6-2.

Sophomore Philip Kloc was victorious over Michael Anders, winning 6-1, 6-4 while teammate Alain Humblet beat Jesse Hutchinson 6-2, 6-1, and Andrew McKinnonn fell to Chris Huynh in three tough sets, falling 6-2, 3-6, 6-4.

Three Mountaineers faced SoCon opponent College of Charleston in singles play, as the Apps went 2-1 against the Cougars.

Senior Britton Webb suffered a loss to Joe Nicolazzi, falling 6-4, 6-2, while Ezekiel Sansing beat Steven Myers in three sets, winning 6-7, 6-3, 6-3.

Freshman Chris Mauch was impressive as well, beating Bo Crouch 6-4, 6-2.

In Friday's doubles play against Richmond, ASU went a stout 3-0 against the Spiders.

The duo of Constance and Jacobs defeated William Minter and Sebastien Fauchet 8-5, while Kloc and Humblet beat Sam Hyland and Jesse Feder 8-2. The team of Web and McKinnon kept the Apps spotless against the Spiders, routing their opponents 8-4.

In other doubles action, the duo of Mauch and Sansing took on Myers and Chris Toussaint of College of Charleston, and eeked out a 9-8 win.

Appalachian played SoCon foe C of Co Saturday in singles action and went 1-6 against the Cougars.

Constance was dealt a loss by Lukas Koncillia, falling 6-0, 6-3 while Jacobs also suffered the same fate, falling to Mickael Trintignac in three thriling sets, 4-6, 7-5, 6-2.

Kloc was defeated by Mickael Boyer 6-2, 6-4 and Humblet fell to Tom Delme 7-6, 2-6, 6-3.

Both McKinnon and Webb fell to their competitors as well, while Sansing defeated Billy Kenny 6-4, 6-2 and Mauch beat Toussaint 6-4, 7-6.

Against the 49ers in doubles action, ASU went a perfect mark of 2-0.

Jacobs and Constance ran past Bernhoerster/Anders 8-2, while Kloc and Humblet also downed their opponents, winning 8-4.

Appalachian finished up play on Sunday, squaring off against Richmond in singles action and C of C in doubles play.

Against the Spiders, the Apps notched a 6-2 record.

Constance defeated Minter 6-1, 6-2m while Jacobs was victorious over Fauchet winning 7-5, 6-4.

Kloc and Webb were defeated in two sets, while Humblet, Sansing, McKinnon and Mauch all rolled to wins.

In the final action of the day, the Mountaineers went 3-1 against the Cougars in doubles.

Constance and Jacobs ran past Koncillia and Delme winning 8-3, while Kloc and Humblet squeaked past Trintignac /Parker winning 9-7. Webb and McKinnon defeated Kenny and Harden 9-7, while Mauch and Sansing rounded out play, falling 8-4 to Boyer and Nicolazzi.
