Men's Soccer Drops 2-1 Decision to College of Charleston

MT. PLEASANT, S.C. - Branko Gavric scored the game-winning goal in the 81st minute to give College of Charleston a come-from-behind 2-1 win over Appalachian State University men's soccer Saturday evening.

Appalachian (4-8-1,1-4) scored the matches first goal in the 38th minute when Arie Muniz headed in a shot from 16 yards out.  The goal was Muniz's sixth of the season.

With just two seconds to go in the first half, College of Charleston (9-8, 3-2) received a free kick that Ralphy Lundy III took from 35 yards out that was redirected in to the net by Francis Twohig to tie the score heading into haltime.

Despite the deflating goal, the Mountaineers came out in the second half ready to play, as Antonio Harley fired a shot just wide shortly after the intermission.

Once the Cougars took the lead, The Apps once again regained the attack as David Dodge sent a shot that was stopped by Clark Hankins with two minutes to play and Sean Dreybus followed with a shot that was blocked by a CofC defender just 10 seconds later.

The match only featured a combined 14 shots as CofC held an 8-6 advantage while ASU had a 6-3 lead in corners.

Collin Taylor made two saves in goal for ASU while Hankins made just one for College of Charleston.

Appalachian returns to the Appalachian Soccer Stadium on Tuesday, Oct. 27 when they host UNC Greensboro at 7 p.m.
