FIVE MOUNTAINEERS UNDERGO SUCCESSFUL SURGERIES: Five Appalachian State University football players, including Walter Payton Award winner Armanti Edwards, underwent successful arthroscopic surgical procedures on Wednesday.
Edwards, defensive tackle Malcolm Bennett and offensive linemen Corbett Harris and Chris Marshall all had injured knees scoped at Watauga Medical Center in Boone. Each of the outpatient procedures were declared successful by ASU sports medicine personnel and the recovery time for all four players is expected to be in the 3-4 week range. Their status for Appalachian's spring-practice period, which begins in late February, is unknown at this time, but all four are expected to be at 100 percent months prior to the start of fall camp in August.
Defensive lineman Daniel Finnerty also underwent an arthroscopic procedure in Charlotte, N.C. to correct a shoulder injury. With an expected recovery time of 12 weeks, he will most likely not be able to participate in spring practice but, like the others, is expected to be at 100 percent when the Mountaineers begin preparations in earnest for the 2009 season in August.
