LaBruyere's Goal Lifts Mountaineers to 1-0 Win Over UNC Asheville

Asheville- J.T. LaBruyere scored the games only goal with just over five minutes left to give Appalachian State an 1-0 win over UNC Asheville Saturday afternoon at Asheville. The senior headed the ball into the right side of the net after he received a centering pass from Antonio Harley. The goal was LaBruyere's ninth of his career and first of the season. The assist was Harley's first of the year.

The match was a defensive battle as each team only got two shots in the first half with each goalkeeper recording a save. Appalachian held a slight 7-5 advantage in shots The Mountaineers led in corner kicks 6-3 but five of those came in the first half.

Appalachian goalkeeper Collin Taylor made his second straight solid start making four saves and recording his first ever collegiate shutout. Arie Muniz was the only Mountaineer to get multiple shots on goal with two, while Nathan Neal had two shots on goal for UNC Asheville.

Appalachian moves to 2-0 on the year and will play Gardner-Webb on Friday, Sept. 12 at 5 p.m. at Winthrop.
