BOONE, N.C. ? After amassing 251 all-purpose yards and three touchdowns in Appalachian State University's 48-14 win over Presbyterian on Saturday evening, ASU running back
Devin Radford was named the Southern Conference Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.
Radford torched visiting PC for 179 rushing yards and 72 more through the air. All of the sophomore's receiving yards came on a 72-yard touchdown reception in the second quarter and he helped turn a close game into a comfortable win with scoring runs of two and one yards in the third period.
The transfer from Virginia Tech came into Saturday's contest with just 14 yards on six carries in his collegiate career but with expanded playing time due to an injury suffered the previous week by starter
Devon Moore, Radford needed only 17 carries to register his 179 yards on the ground in Saturday's triumph (10.5 yards per rush).
Radford is the third Mountaineer in four games to earn weekly accolades from the SoCon. Linebacker
Jacque Roman was the league's Defensive Player of the Week following his 12-tackle performance in the season opener at LSU and running back
Robert Welton earned offensive recognition after running for 161 yards and three scores in the Apps' Sept. 6 win over Jacksonville.
